Olympics Day One

We got to Vancouver on the first day of our trip around 1:00. Our first event wasn't until 9:30 that night. We tried to get some speed skating tickets, but everything was sold out. We were warned to not buy tickets on the street, but looking back we probably just should have just done it. We met some people on our trip that only saw events by buying tickets from scalpers.

Our first event was Ice Hockey. We saw the Czech Republic play Slovakia. We had amazing seats. Second row from the ice practically on the center line. The Czech Republic won the game, but Slovakia went on the play in the bronze medal game. My favorite part was being surrounded by team supporters and listening to them cheer their country on. How exciting it would have been to be at the USA vs Canada game.

We also killed some time the first day by visiting the Official Olympic Store. Ridiculous madness. The line to get inside was almost always three blocks long and you had to wait in it for about an hour. Then it was chaos once you got inside. There were some hot ticket items that you couldn't find anywhere (sweatshirts, coats, hats and scarves). Of course I wanted one of them. It became my personal quest to get a Canada sweatshirt. It never happened. I have checked on eBay since we've been home just out of curiosity. The $70 sweathsirts are now selling for over $200
